Spreading Hope Through Service: A Uniform Donation Initiative

On 14th February 2026, students from Taita Taveta University, led by Douglas Mokaya and serving as active members of the NEDA Africa Project, conducted a uniform donation exercise at St. James Bura Primary and Junior Secondary School. The initiative formed part of the project’s mission to empower communities through service, compassion, and sustainable social impact.

Uniform donation is a key activity of the NEDA Africa Project, rooted in the belief that every learner deserves access to dignified and motivating education. In collaboration with the school’s administration, the most vulnerable students were identified and prioritized to ensure fairness and meaningful impact.

Primary school learners received items including sweaters, ties, scarves, skirts, and school bags, while junior secondary students were provided with sweaters, shirts, and shoes. These donations addressed essential needs, enabling many learners to attend school with renewed confidence and a sense of belonging.

The event was marked by heartfelt appreciation from the students, whose joy and repeated calls of “mrudi tena” (come again) reflected the positive impact of the initiative. Beyond material support, the exercise reinforced the importance of empathy, human connection, and community engagement.

For the university students, the activity also provided a valuable opportunity to develop leadership skills and deepen their understanding of community needs. It strengthened teamwork and reaffirmed their commitment to service-driven leadership.

Overall, the outreach was a meaningful success—supporting learners, strengthening community ties, and demonstrating the transformative power of collective goodwill.
